Dr. Richard Henry

Dr. Richard Henry was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended Hall High School and graduated in 1966. He went to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and received a bachelor degree in biology. He was a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, an honorary pre-medical society. His medical training started at the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1974. He then completed a rotating internship at St. John hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and completed a 3-year residency in ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in 1978.

Dr. Henry became board certified in ophthalmology by the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 1979. He has been member in good standing since that time. He is also a member of the Arkansas Medical Society and Arkansas Ophthalmological Society. He began the practice of ophthalmology in 1979 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He founded Eye Care Surgical Associates and practiced in North Little Rock for the past 35 years. He merged his practice with Little Rock Eye Clinic in March of 2016.

Dr. Henry specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology. This includes a particular interest in cataract surgery, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma and macular degeneration, as well as general eye exams.

Dr. Henry and his wife Jan have been married 44 years and have 3 sons and 6 grandchildren. Besides enjoying time with his family, Dr. Henry enjoys the outdoors. Hunting and fishing are a favorite pastime. He also volunteers his time with medical missions. Working with his church he helped found the Medical Mission of Pignon, a medical mission serving the area of Pignon, Haiti. He has traveled to Pignon several times to service as consulting ophthalmologist in the mission hospital.

I worked  in  my  private  practice In Sheridan from 1979-2003, sold it and worked  for W. Brent Hall  at  Hall  Eyecare  Associates  in  Pine Bluff  from2003-2014. I  moved to  Little Rock  in 2014, and was subsequently offered a  position  at  Little  Rock  Eye Clinic West  in  2014, due  to  two doctor’s retiring.

I am very glad to have been offered this position and am currently working at  building my patient base, fitting specialty contact lenses and formulating unique  glasses prescriptions.

In addition to my profession I am an extremely avid bicyclist, kayaker and hiker. I also do volunteer work at my church, St. Luke’s Episcopal and through the three bicycling clubs to which I belong.
